This is what the Lord says: “I will go before you, Cyrus, and level the mountains. I will smash down gates of bronze and cut through bars of iron. And I will give you treasures hidden in the darkness—secret riches. I will do this so you may know that I am the Lord, the God of Israel, the one who calls you by name. (Isaiah 45:2-3 NLT)

God has treasures in the darkness of suffering. He has purpose in the troubles we find ourselves in. He uses these times to grow our faith, to discipline, to teach us, to train us to bring his light and love to someone else. He doesn’t let us walk through the dark alone. “Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.” (Psalm 23:4 NLT) He lights the way through the darkness. “You light a lamp for me. The Lord, my God, lights up my darkness.” (Psalm 18:28 NLT) “Who among you fears the Lord and obeys his servant? If you are walking in darkness, without a ray of light, trust in the Lord and rely on your God.” (Isaiah 50:10 NLT)
