“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.” (Proverbs 14:12 ESV) When we allow evil to penetrate our hearts, we are on the way to death. “And to this people you shall say: ‘Thus says the Lord: Behold, I set before you the way of life and the way of death….'” (Jeremiah 21:8 ESV) We need to get into the Word and see the difference between good and evil.
For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant. 14 But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil. Hebrews 5:13-14 NASB
So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours? 1 Kings 3:9 NIV
But God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’ ‘You will not certainly die,’ the serpent said to the woman. 5 ‘For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.’ When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Genesis 3:3-6 NIV
“The line between good and evil is permeable and almost anyone can be induced to cross it when pressured by situational forces.” (Philip Zimbardo) Sometimes evil tastes better than what is good, but in the end it is toxicc. When we take our eyes off God, we get distracted by things. “Yes, the Lord has done amazing things for us! What joy!” Psalm 126:3 NLT When the Word of God becomes “just a book” we lose our roadmap.
